A new report, commissioned by the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW), provides strategic advice on regional water issues in the Warrill and potential ways to progress the goals of the Water for Warrill group.
The report, prepared by BADU Advisory, involved stakeholder workshops and consultations and explores the key water-related opportunities available in the region.
In particular the report focused on the opportunities in agricultural manufacturing and processing that will be unlocked via a more secure water supply.
The report was funded by the department and the Scenic Rim Regional Council and was intended to provide high-level strategic advice regarding water issues and the potential next steps for the project.
BADU Advisory engaged with stakeholders on issues such as water trading, identifying scheme efficiencies, overland flow management and water recycling opportunities.
The latest Water for Warrill report will complement and inform the SEQ Agriculture Regional Water Assessment (RWA) and the Moreton Water Plan replacement.
Upon receipt of the final BADU Advisory Report, the Water for Warrill Board, and officers from DRDMW and SRRC agreed to reconvene in 2025 to agree on next steps.
Water for Warrill was formed in 2020 when, with support from Scenic Rim regional Council, an initial feasibility report and water demand assessment was conducted. The primary objective was to provide more secure and reliable water to agricultural producers in the Scenic Rim.
The early work found there was significant interest and support from irrigators in the Warrill and Fassifern Valleys for a reliable water supply.
The initial reports, and the recent BADU Advisory report, confirm that more reliable water and larger volumes of water will unlock new investment in regional agriculture, will provide investment certainty to the industry and will lead to new jobs and regional opportunities.
