Unlocking Millions in New Agricultural Value
The Water for Warrill Irrigation Project aims to deliver reliable, secure irrigation to agricultural producers in Scenic Rim.
This will enable irrigators to consolidate existing production and expand their operations.
The project is seeking government investment to develop a structured business case proposal for new water infrastructure options.
We can’t get more land, however if we can access more water we will be able to grow our most significant industry, which will provide benefits across the region. This project is about future proofing our region, creating jobs and growing the economy.
Latest developments
Our investigation has confirmed that modest water planning reforms and targeted infrastructure investment can unlock significant economic growth across the Warrill Valley.
By improving water availability, flexibility and reliability, the project will create the conditions for growers to expand production, transition to higher-value crops, and invest with confidence. The Stage 2 assessment found:

- Farm case studies show around $250,000 per year in additional income per farm
- Long-term enterprise value can increase by $3 million or more
- Regional productivity improves through better use of existing water resources
Critically, these benefits are achieved not through major increases in water take, but through smarter rules and better use of every megalitre.
This is about getting more value from the water we already have and creating new opportunities for growers and processors right across the valley.
Why the Water for Warrill initiative matters
In 2020, with support from Scenic Rim Regional Council, a Water for Warrill Irrigation Project initial feasibility report and demand assessment was conducted by consultants Jacobs Engineering Group.
The project has the ability to strengthen the agricultural sector in the Warrill and Fassifern Valleys by:
Delivering high priority water
Increasing production volumes
Supercharging investment certainty
Increasing job opportunities
Early investigations suggest the project could lead to direct economic benefit of up to $305-million and $150-million in new agricultural revenue each year, as well as the creation of up to 1340 new jobs in agriculture, value-added processing and supporting industries.
